Adam Kulisz, known by the stage name "Coolish," was born in 1966 in Kobiór in southern Poland (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). He made his debut in 1985 as saxophonist with the band Big John and The Rockets at the Blues Top festival in Sopot, and from the mid-1980s onward mentored numerous amateur blues bands and performed at major festivals including Rawa Blues (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). In 2004 he founded the solo project Coolish Blues Session, later renamed Coolish Supersession, inviting respected instrumentalists to collaborate (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). In 2007 he formalized Kulisz Trio, which had already recorded the album "100 Cotton Blues" with harmonica player Michał Kielak in 2005 (Source: kulisz.pl). The trio has had several lineups: Kulisz, Kielak and drummer Tomasz Karkoszka in the acoustic starting phase (2006–2007); Kulisz, Michał Giercuszkiewicz (drums) and Mariusz Maksymowicz (upright bass) from 2008; Adrian Fuchs took over drums in 2011, followed by Piotr Rożankowski on bass from 2014, Aleksander Juraszczyk on drums from 2015, and finally Tomasz "Kwiatek" Kwiatkowski from 2019 (Source: kulisz.pl). When Kwiatkowski died on 29 June 2023, Kulisz Trio ended all concert activity on 8 August that same year (Source: kulisz.pl). The trio's discography comprises "100% Biedy" (2007), "Bluesletter" (2008), "Ciemnogranie" (2012), the live album "Historie bluesem pisane" (2013), "Blues na naszym placu" (2016), the EP "Bye Bye Blues" (2019) and "Historie bluesem pisane – Live at Leśniczówka" (2022) (Source: kulisz.pl). In parallel, Kulisz has built a solo career with over 700 concerts across Poland and Europe, more than ten full-length albums, and over 150 original songs spanning blues, boogie, rock and ballads; since 2021 he has also led the projects QLA MAQLA and Kulisz 4 Rock&Roll (Source: kulisz.pl). He is affiliated with Śląska Grupa Bluesowa as a guest musician, and has collaborated with Kasa Chorych, J.J.Band, Magda Piskorczyk and British guitarist Otis Grand (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). Kulisz has been voted Vocalist of the Year by Twój Blues readers six times (Source: pl.wikipedia.org), and in 2025 received the Jan "Kyksa" Skrzek Artistic Award, named after the founder of Śląska Grupa Bluesowa (Source: pl.wikipedia.org).

Musical Influence

With his distinctive, deep "hooker-like" voice and a repertoire sung in both Polish and the Silesian dialect, Adam Kulisz — as a solo artist and through Kulisz Trio — has helped keep the traditional, southern Polish blues tradition alive for over three decades, and has mentored numerous amateur bands since the mid-1980s (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). The 2025 Jan "Kyksa" Skrzek Artistic Award recognizes him as a direct heir to the founder of Śląska Grupa Bluesowa. Blues Top 2024 ranked him Poland's 2nd best male vocalist (Source: twojblues.com/blues.pl Blues Top rankings).
