When Andreas Diehlmann founded his own band in Kassel in 2017, it was the product of a long musical apprenticeship: he started on guitar at age eleven, switched to classical guitar at seventeen, attended the music vocational school in Dinkelsbühl and went on to study classical guitar at the Musikakademie Kassel under Wolfgang Lendle (Source: darkstars.de interview, February 2019). He played in one of Germany's first AC/DC tribute bands alongside Tom (now the Andreas Diehlmann Band's drummer) and Volker, and drew much of his rhythmic feel from funk and disco artists such as George Duke, Tower of Power, Chic and Earth, Wind & Fire (Source: darkstars.de interview). Before starting his own band he spent nearly four years touring as guitarist for American blues and gospel singer Sydney Ellis, a period he has called decisive: "you have to do your own thing to move forward" (Source: darkstars.de interview). The band — Diehlmann on guitar, vocals and organ, Jörg Sebald on bass and Tom Bonn on drums — builds its sound around what the band itself describes as "Texas Blues meets Rock'n'Roll" (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de). The debut album "ADB" appeared in 2017, and the band has released roughly an album a year since: "Your Blues Ain't Mine" (2018, nominated for Best Blues Album at the 2019 German Blues Awards), "Point Of No Return" (2019, three months in the Amazon blues chart top 10), "Mercy On Me" (2020), "Them Chains" (2021), the compilation "The Best Of 2017–2021" (2022), "Long Way To Go" (2023) and "That Old Blues Again" (2024) (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de; Discogs). The band's last three studio albums have all reached number one on Amazon Germany's blues chart (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de). In 2022 the band won the German Blues Award in the Band category, and in 2025 they won two awards at once — "Best Band" and "Best Album" for "That Old Blues Again" (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de). Bluesnews wrote that the record "is very well made and hits hard" ("Das ist sehr gut gemacht und knallt gewaltig"), while the UK's Blues Matters! magazine praised the vocals as "a fine Blues Voice" in a "brilliant all round" performance (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de/presse).

Musical Influence

The Andreas Diehlmann Band is still a relatively young act — founded in 2017 — but in under a decade has established itself as one of the more successful names on the contemporary German blues scene, with three consecutive albums topping Amazon Germany's blues chart and two German Blues Award wins (2022 and 2025) (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de). For now, the band's significance lies more in demonstrating that an independent, self-produced act from Kassel can build a national fanbase and touring career without a major label behind it — virtually the entire catalogue has been recorded, produced and mixed by Diehlmann himself at his own Mountain Meadow Studio (Source: Discogs release credits, "That Old Blues Again" and "Long Way To Go"). The UK's Blues Matters! magazine has called the band a "brilliant all round" experience, and reviewers such as Rockblog.Bluesspot have placed them "in the first league of the genre in Germany" — recognition from both domestic and international specialist press that points to a growing standing in the wider European blues scene (Source: andreasdiehlmann.de/presse).
