Ash Grunwald, born Ashley Mark Groenewald on 5 September 1976 in Melbourne, learned blues standards from his grandfather as a child before moving to full-time music around 2001 (Source: Wikipedia). He built his name as a one-man band, playing guitar, lapsteel and harmonica while driving the rhythm with a stomp box, and broke through during the Head Records and Delta Groove Records years of 2002-2009, winning Australian Blues Awards recognition and even supporting James Brown (Source: Wikipedia). Five of his albums have charted in the ARIA top 50, including "Fish Out of Water" (2008, #43), "Hot Mama Vibes" (2010, #31), "Trouble's Door" (2012, #29), "Gargantua" (2013, #46) and "Mojo" (2019, #40) (Source: Wikipedia). After relocating to Byron Bay he expanded into collaborations with electronic producers and, more recently, fellow Australian artists Kasey Chambers and Josh Teskey, alongside publishing the book "Surf by Day, Jam by Night" (Source: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

Ash Grunwald has been a key figure in modernizing Australian blues for festival and mainstream audiences, proving a one-man stomp-box blues show can chart alongside electronic and pop collaborators without losing its roots (Source: Wikipedia, career overview).
