El Fish is a Belgian blues-rock band founded around 1994 by harmonica player Steven De Bruyn, growing out of the cellar blues-bar circuit of Leuven and the nearby Wespelaar area (Source: nl.wikipedia.org). Built around De Bruyn (harmonica, omnichord, sampler), bassist Jan Ieven and drummer Rohal De Ridder, the band expanded its blues-rock foundation with funk and rock accents over five studio albums released between 1996 and 2001: "Blue Coffee," "Rewinder," "Hooked," "Wisteria" and "Waterbottle" (Source: nl.wikipedia.org). Notable former members include vocalist/guitarist Filip Casteels and celebrated Belgian blues guitarist Roland Van Campenhout (Source: nl.wikipedia.org). El Fish won Zamu awards for Best Live Act in 1998 and Best Roots Act in 2001 (Source: nl.wikipedia.org). The band disbanded in 2001 but reunited in 2010, playing a reunion show at Brussels' Ancienne Belgique in October 2011 (Source: nl.wikipedia.org).

Musical Influence

El Fish helped shape the Leuven blues-bar scene of the 1990s and, through alumnus Roland Van Campenhout, connects directly to one of Belgium's most respected blues guitar lineages (Source: nl.wikipedia.org).
