Errol Linton is a British blues harmonica player and singer from Brixton, London, known for blending 1950s Chicago blues with reggae rhythms and Jamaican influences (Source: errollinton.com; Country Music Magazine). He began as a street and metro busker in London, where in the early 1990s BBC producer John Walters caught his performance and invited him onto Andy Kershaw's BBC Radio 1 show (Source: Country Music Magazine). In 1993 he appeared alongside Big Bill Broonzy in the BBC Two Arena documentary "Two Generations of the Blues," and was the subject of a related John Walters-presented film, "Blues South of the River," bringing him wider recognition (Source: Country Music Magazine). He draws his harmonica style from Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson II (Source: Country Music Magazine). His debut album with his band, Errol Linton's Blues Vibe, "Vibin' It," was self-financed through busking earnings and released on Ruby Records in 1997, followed by "Roots Stew" (2001) (Source: errollinton.com; Country Music Magazine). Later albums include "Mama Said" (2011), the acoustic "Dealing With That Feeling" (2014, with long-time guitarist Adam Blake), "Packing My Bags" (2018, Brassdog Records) and "No Entry" (2019, recorded at Toe Rag Studios in Hackney) (Source: errollinton.com). He is a three-time winner of the "UK Blues Harmonica Player of the Year" award (Source: Country Music Magazine). His current band features Adam Blake on guitar, Lance Rose on bass, Kenrick Rowe on drums and Petar Zivkovic on piano (Source: errollinton.com). Linton has held a regular Wednesday-night residency at the Effra Tavern in Brixton and has toured across Europe and Japan, with airplay and support from BBC broadcasters including Cerys Matthews, Robert Elms, Andy Kershaw, Johnny Walker, Paul Jones and the late Charlie Gillett (Source: errollinton.com).

Musical Influence

Discovered busking on the London Underground and championed early on by BBC's John Walters, Linton has become one of Europe's most distinctive harmonica players by fusing Chicago blues with reggae, winning the UK Blues Harmonica Player of the Year award three times (Source: Country Music Magazine).
