Fabio Treves (born 27 December 1949 in Milan) is Italy's most prominent blues harmonica player, nicknamed "il Puma di Lambrate" ("the Puma of Lambrate") after the Milan neighbourhood where he grew up, a name echoing British bluesman John Mayall's "Manchester's Lion" nickname (Source: Wikipedia). Drawn to the harmonica in the 1960s after studying bass, organ, trumpet and alto sax, he formed his first group, the Friday Blues Group, in 1967, performed at the Sanremo Festival in 1972 and 1973, and founded the Treves Blues Band in 1974 — widely described as Italy's first blues band (Source: Wikipedia; official site). Treves has recorded and performed with American blues figures including Sunnyland Slim, Johnny Shines and Willie Mabon, and is the only Italian musician known to have shared a stage with Frank Zappa during an Italian tour (Source: Wikipedia). The band's 1981 live album, recorded with visiting Chicago guitarist Mike Bloomfield, remains a landmark of the Italian blues catalogue (Source: Discogs). Treves received Milan's Ambrogino d'Oro civic honour on 7 December 2014, and was profiled among Rolling Stone Italia's "100 Faces of Italian Music" in February 2015 (Source: Wikipedia). The Treves Blues Band marked 50 uninterrupted years of activity in 2024 and remains active, with 2026 festival dates including the AL Blues Festival in Alba (Source: Associazione Alec).

Musical Influence

As founder of Italy's first blues band and the country's most decorated blues harmonica player, Treves — honoured with Milan's Ambrogino d'Oro and profiled by Rolling Stone Italia — has shaped the Italian blues scene for over five decades and mentored generations of Italian blues musicians (Source: Wikipedia; official site).
