Fiona Boyes has toured more than 20 countries across a career spanning over 25 years, and remains the only Australian ever nominated for a US Blues Music Award — the blues world's highest honor, sometimes called "the Grammys of the Blues" (Source: official EPK, fionaboyes.com). She started out in the 1990s with the all-female Australian blues band The Mojo's before launching her solo career with the debut album "Blues in My Heart" in 2000 (Source: Wikipedia). In 2003 she won the solo/duo category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, a result that opened the US blues circuit to her (Source: Wikipedia; official EPK). She has since earned eight US Blues Music Award nominations (2007-2019), a Blues Blast Music Award, a US Blues Critics Award for Best Live Blues Album (2008), and induction into the Blues Victoria Hall of Fame (Source: official EPK). Her guitar work spans Delta slide, Mississippi Hills grooves and country-blues fingerpicking, often played on her own custom-built cigar-box guitars (a 3-string "Revenant" and 4-string "Tenner") and a rare ResoLectric baritone, alongside longtime percussionist Mark Grunden (Source: official EPK). Living Blues Magazine wrote that she "draws inspiration from the classic blues sounds of New Orleans, Chicago, and Memphis, bringing refreshingly new and finely crafted original songs" (Source: Living Blues Magazine, via official EPK), while Howlin' Wolf's guitarist Hubert Sumlin — who she performed and recorded alongside — said: "She's got it! I've played with all of them — and she's got it!" (Source: official EPK). Her most recent studio album, "Ramblified," is her thirteenth release (Source: official EPK).

Musical Influence

As the only Australian ever nominated for a US Blues Music Award, Fiona Boyes has been a singular ambassador for Australian blues on the genre's home turf, and a respected peer of American blues royalty like Hubert Sumlin, Bob Margolin and Watermelon Slim (Source: official EPK).
