Fred Chapellier picked up the guitar in 1981 in his native Metz, after three years behind a drum kit (Source: Wikipédia FR; fredchapellier.fr). He cut his teeth in the blues band Kashmir through the 1990s and then Men in Blue, before forming what became simply Fred Chapellier in 2002–2003. Principally influenced by Peter Green, Albert King and Roy Buchanan, he built a reputation as one of France's most distinctive blues-rock guitar voices, nominated "blues revelation" and "best guitarist" at the 2004 Trophées France Blues (Source: fredchapellier.fr). His career runs on two parallel tracks: his own band, and high-profile sideman work — nine years alongside chanson icon Jacques Dutronc from 2010, a stint backing American vocalist Billy Price, and from 2014 a chair in Les Vieilles Canailles, the touring supergroup of Dutronc, Johnny Hallyday and Eddy Mitchell (Source: fredchapellier.fr).

Musical Influence

Chapellier represents the guitar-hero strand of French blues-rock — a player whose reputation was built as much on high-profile sideman credits (Dutronc, Les Vieilles Canailles) as on his own catalogue, helping keep blues guitar visible in mainstream French popular music (Source: fredchapellier.fr).
