Ian Siegal (born Ian Berry, 1971, near Portsmouth, England) is a British blues singer, guitarist and bandleader whose work blends traditional blues with Americana (Source: Wikipedia). He dropped out of art college in the late 1980s and went busking in Germany before beginning a recording career, releasing "Hard As" (1998) and "Yo' Edjumikashun" (1999) followed by "Standing in the Morning" and "Meat & Potatoes" (2005, produced by guitarist Matt Schofield, later listed with a four-star rating in the Penguin Book of Blues Recordings) (Source: Wikipedia; All About Blues Music). His 2009 album "Broadside" was named Blues Album of the Year by MOJO magazine (Source: All About Blues Music). Siegal built deep ties to the American South, recording "The Skinny" (2011) with backing band the Youngest Sons under producer Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars — the album made him the first British artist nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the US Blues Music Awards (Source: Wikipedia; countrymusic.co.uk). He followed it with "Candy Store Kid" (2012, credited to Ian Siegal & the Mississippi Mudbloods, featuring Mississippi hill-country musicians Alvin Youngblood Hart, Luther Dickinson, Gary Burnside, Rodd Bland and Robert Kimbrough), and "Wayward Sons" with Jimbo Mathus (Source: Wikipedia). Siegal won Best Band at the inaugural British Blues Awards in 2010, then took the Best Male Vocals title three years running from 2011 to 2013, a run that led to his induction into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame (Source: Wikipedia; Nugene Records). He has also worked with the Orchestre National de Jazz in France on "Broadway in Satin," a program of Billie Holiday material (Source: Wikipedia). His current touring band features Dusty Ciggaar on guitar, Danny van 't Hoff on bass and Rafael Schwiddessen on drums (Source: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

Siegal's 2011 album "The Skinny," recorded with North Mississippi Allstars producer Cody Dickinson, made him the first British artist ever nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the US Blues Music Awards, while three consecutive British Blues Awards Male Vocals wins (2011-2013) earned him induction into that award's Hall of Fame (Source: Wikipedia; countrymusic.co.uk).
