Julian Sas was born on 29 May 1970 in Beneden-Leeuwen, in the municipality of West Maas en Waal, and has become one of the Netherlands' most consistent blues-rock guitarists and bandleaders (Source: nl.wikipedia.org; MusicBrainz). He founded the Julian Sas Band in 1996 and has released a steady stream of studio albums ever since, including "Where Will It End?" (1996), "A Smile to My Soul" (1997), "Twilight Skies of Life" (2005, which charted at number 90), "Wandering Between Worlds" (2009), "Bound to Roll" (2012), "Coming Home" (2016), "Stand Your Ground" (2019) and the acoustic-leaning "Electracoustic" (2022). His playing draws on American guitar heroes Johnny Winter, Walter Trout and Jimi Hendrix, and on blues pioneers John Lee Hooker, Freddie King and Willie Dixon, but his most defining influence is the Irish blues-rocker Rory Gallagher -- a connection so close that Sas has performed dedicated "Julian Plays Rory" concerts alongside Gallagher's own former rhythm section, bassist Gerry McAvoy and drummer Brendan O'Neill (Source: nl.wikipedia.org). The current Julian Sas Band lineup includes Gerben Koolen on bass, who joined in December 2025, and Lars-Erik van Elzakker on drums (Source: juliansas.com; nl.wikipedia.org). Sas remains an active touring musician on the European blues circuit.

Musical Influence

Julian Sas has kept the Rory Gallagher-style blues-rock guitar tradition alive in continental Europe for three decades, both through his own band's steady output and through direct collaboration with Gallagher's former rhythm section in dedicated tribute concerts (Source: nl.wikipedia.org).
