Kasa Chorych was founded in Białystok in 1975 by harmonica player Ryszard "Skiba" Skibiński and guitarist/vocalist Jarosław Tioskow, with Andrzej Kotarski, Zbigniew Richter, Andrzej Pala and Mirosław Kozioł in the first lineup (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). The band achieved its national breakthrough in 1978, the same year it placed third at the Wielkopolskie Rytmy Młodych festival and made its first recordings for Polskie Radio Białystok (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). In 1981 came the single "Zgniła porzeczka," and in 1982 the band appeared in the film "Koncert" — the same year Skibiński left the band to play with Krzak (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). Skibiński died in 1983, only around 32 years old, a fate commemorated through a 2007 tribute album from Metal Mind Productions titled "Ryszard 'Skiba' Skibiński (1951–1983)" (Source: bibliotekapiosenki.pl). The band reformed in 1992 and continued for more than two decades, with a final lineup of Jarosław Tioskow (guitar, vocals), Włodzimierz Dudek (guitar), Krzysztof Wołoszyn (bass), Michał Kielak (harmonica) and Mirosław Wiechnik (drums) (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). The discography from this period includes "Blues Band" (1994), "Chcę cię kochać" (1998), "Rhythm & Puls" (2004), "Live" and "Blues córek naszych" (both 2006), "Koncertowo" and "Skiba" (both 2008), "Orla" (2014) and the triple album "W filharmonii," recorded at the Białystok Philharmonic in late 2015 (Source: bibliotekapiosenki.pl). The album "Koncertowo" won the prestigious Fryderyk Award in the blues category in 2009 (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). After more than 40 years on stage, Kasa Chorych gave its farewell concert at Kino Forum in Białystok on 4 March 2017, with guest appearances including Sławek Wierzcholski of Nocna Zmiana Bluesa (Source: poranny.pl; naszemiasto.pl).

Musical Influence

As one of Poland's oldest continuous blues bands, with roots to 1975 and a Fryderyk Award in 2009, Kasa Chorych shaped the northeastern Polish blues scene in Białystok across more than four decades, and gave rise to musicians such as Michał Kielak, who later became one of the country's leading harmonica players (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). The 2017 farewell concert brought together several generations of Polish blues musicians on a single stage.
