Kevin Nicholas Borich, born 27 October 1948 in Huapai, New Zealand, formed his first band The Mergers in 1963, which was renamed The La De Da's the following year and scored five New Zealand top 10 hits between 1966-1967 (Source: Wikipedia). His song "Gonna See My Baby Tonight" reached the Australian top 10 in 1971, and the band recorded the concept album "The Happy Prince" (1969) and played the landmark 1972 Sunbury Pop Festival (Source: Wikipedia). In 1976 he founded the Kevin Borich Express, whose album "Celebration!" (1977) reached #28 on the Australian charts, and the band toured supporting AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac and Santana (Source: Wikipedia). From 1982 he also played guitar in The Party Boys, who scored a #1 single with "He's Gonna Step on You Again" and a #1 album, both in 1987 (Source: Wikipedia). He won Best Guitarist at the Australian Rock Music Awards in 1977 and 1978, received a Heritage Award at the 1999 Australian Blues Music Festival, and was inducted into the Australian Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 2003 (Source: Wikipedia). In May 2005 he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, undergoing radiation and chemotherapy that affected his salivary glands and hearing, but continued performing and recording, releasing albums including "Nomad" (2004) and "Duets" (2023) — the latter featuring guests such as Joe Walsh, Ian Moss and Russell Morris (Source: Wikipedia; official site).

Musical Influence

From The La De Da's psychedelic-rock era through decades of Kevin Borich Express blues-rock, Borich has been a foundational figure bridging Australasian rock and blues, respected enough by his peers to be enshrined in the Australian Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and to draw guests like Joe Walsh onto his own records (Source: Wikipedia).
