King King is a Scottish blues-rock band formed in the summer of 2008 in Glasgow by guitarist/singer Alan Nimmo, bassist Lindsay Coulson, keyboardist Dale Storr and drummer Dave Raeburn, with Nimmo and Coulson both previously of the Nimmo Brothers (Source: Wikipedia). The band takes its name from a former Los Angeles blues club, King King, immortalised in a live album by the Red Devils (Source: Wikipedia). A standout performance at the 2010 Monahan Blues Festival propelled the band to a new level, and their 2011 debut album "Take My Hand" (Manhaton Records) won British Blues Album of the Year at the 2012 British Blues Awards, with the band also winning Best British Blues Band the same year (Source: AllMusic; Wikipedia). King King was inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame after winning Best Band three years running, and won five awards at the 2014 ceremony alone (Source: Wikipedia). Further studio albums followed on Manhaton Records: "Standing in the Shadows" (2013), "Reaching for the Light" (2015, winner of Best British Blues Album), and "Exile & Grace" (2017, which reached number one on Classic Rock magazine's blues album chart and number 31 on the UK Albums Chart) (Source: Wikipedia). In 2016 the band released the CD/DVD "King King Live," which won Best Live Album, and the following year they won Best Band at the European Blues Awards (Source: Wikipedia). The band supported John Mayall on a 34-date UK tour in 2014, played Wembley Arena in 2016 supporting Thunder, and performed at the Royal Albert Hall and Shepherd's Bush Empire in 2018 (Source: Wikipedia). Alan Nimmo underwent vocal cord polyp surgery in August 2016, requiring an extended recovery (Source: Wikipedia). In 2019 the band underwent major lineup changes: Lindsay Coulson departed after a decade and was replaced by Zander Greenshields, drummer Wayne Proctor was replaced by Andrew Scott, and Alan's brother Stevie Nimmo joined as a fifth member on guitar and vocals (Source: Wikipedia). The band released "Maverick" (2020, Channel 9 Music), which reached number 77 on the UK Albums Chart, and joined Joe Bonamassa's "Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea" cruise the following year (Source: Wikipedia). Drummer Andrew Scott was succeeded by Jon Lodge in 2024 (Source: Wikipedia). The band released its first studio album in five years, "Light Up The Sky," on 29 September 2025, preceded by the single "Strong" (Source: Blues Rock Review). King King toured the UK extensively through late 2026 and into 2027 in support of the album (Source: Bandsintown listings). Frontman Alan Nimmo is known for performing in a kilt as part of the band's stage tradition (Source: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

King King's Hall of Fame induction and back-to-back Band of the Year wins helped define the modern British blues-rock sound of the 2010s, and their run of chart-topping blues albums kept guitar-led blues rock commercially viable in the UK through a decade when the genre struggled for mainstream visibility (Source: Wikipedia).
