Stockport, Greater Manchester, England
Kyla Brox was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on 3 June 1980, into a genuinely musical family: her parents, Victor Brox and Annette Brox, performed together in the Victor Brox Blues Train and both appeared on the original 1970 recording of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (Source: last.fm; Wikipedia). She grew up listening to her father play blues and her mother sing opera, and at twelve began performing in her father's band.\n\nIn 2000 she toured Australia with her father, and back in Manchester in 2001 formed a duo with Danny Blomeley that eventually became the Kyla Brox Band, settling into a line-up of Brox (vocals, flute), guitarist Marshall Gill, saxophonist Tony Marshall, bassist Danny Blomeley and drummer Phil Considine (Source: last.fm). Her solo and band discography includes "Gone" (2007), "Grey Sky Blue" (2009), "Coming Home" (2009, as the Kyla Brox Band), "Live... At Last" (2014), "Throw Away Your Blues" (2016) and "Pain & Glory" (2019), all on Pigskin Records (Source: kylabrox.com).\n\nBrox won the UK Blues Challenge in 2018 and the European Blues Challenge in 2019, was voted Best Female Vocalist at the 2019 European Blues Awards, and was a semi-finalist at the International Blues Challenge in both 2019 and 2020 (Source: last.fm). Brox joined her father's Victor Brox Blues Train as a regular touring member in 1993 and toured Australia multiple times (2000, 2003, 2004, 2007) before her 2007 US debut. In 2016 the UK Blues Federation named her an official Ambassador of UK Blues, and both "Throw Away Your Blues" and "Pain & Glory" reached No.1 on the IBBA Charts in 2019 (Source: Wikipedia; last.fm; kylabrox.com). Her current band lineup is Paul Farr (guitar, with her over ten years and leader of his own Paul Farr Band), her husband and 25-year musical partner Danny Blomeley (bass, acoustic guitar), and Mark Warburton (drums); a 2023 live album, "Live at Köniz Castle," was recorded at Köniz Castle in Switzerland (Source: kylabrox.com).

Musical Influence

Raised inside a family whose own recording credits stretch back to the original "Jesus Christ Superstar," Kyla Brox represents blues as an inherited, lived tradition rather than a stylistic choice — a rare direct lineage from 1960s British blues (via her father's Victor Brox Blues Train) into the current UK Blues Challenge-winning generation.
