Larkin Poe is named for a man neither Rebecca nor Megan Lovell ever met: their great-great-great-great-grandfather, a first cousin of Edgar Allan Poe. It is a fitting name for a band whose entire sound is built on channeling inheritance — bluegrass roots, blues-slide tradition, and a family harmony blood-tight enough to sound like one voice split in two. The sisters grew up in north Georgia and started out as classically trained string players. In 2005 they formed an acoustic bluegrass trio, the Lovell Sisters, with their older sister Jessica, touring the roots-music circuit through the back half of the decade. When Jessica left to start a family, the trio disbanded in December 2009, and in January 2010 Rebecca and Megan regrouped as a duo under the new name Larkin Poe, moving decisively away from bluegrass toward blues, roots-rock and slide guitar (Kilde: Wikipedia). They built their early audience largely online, posting a stream of blues and rock cover videos that showcased Megan's lap-steel and Rebecca's electric guitar and vocals with an intimacy that translated well to YouTube. In late 2013 they signed with RH Music, and in 2014 released their full debut album, "Kin," the same year they played the Glastonbury Festival and were named "Best Discovery of Glastonbury 2014" by The Observer. That year they also joined producer T Bone Burnett's "Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes" project, setting newly discovered Bob Dylan lyrics to music alongside Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford and others (Kilde: Wikipedia). From there the sisters built a steady discography rooted increasingly in Delta and hill-country blues filtered through modern production: "Peach" (2017), the Grammy-nominated "Venom & Faith" (2018), "Self Made Man" (2020) and its companion "Kindred Spirits" (2020), and "Blood Harmony" (2022), which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2024. Their 2025 album "Bloom" continued the run (Kilde: Wikipedia). Rebecca handles lead vocals and electric guitar; Megan is one of the most distinctive lap-steel players working in blues today, an instrument she has made central to the band's identity rather than a decorative accent. Now based in Nashville, the sisters have become one of the most visible roots-rock acts of their generation, their sound running directly through the Delta and hill-country blues tradition — Son House, Skip James, Mississippi Fred McDowell — filtered through electric-era volume and tight sibling harmony (Kilde: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

Larkin Poe carried the Delta and hill-country blues tradition of Son House, Skip James and Mississippi Fred McDowell into a modern roots-rock sound built on Megan Lovell's lap-steel playing and the sisters' tight family harmony. Their 2022 album "Blood Harmony" won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2024, and their early YouTube cover videos helped define how a new generation of roots-rock and blues acts built an audience online (Kilde: Wikipedia).
