Matt Schofield (born Matthew Schofield, 21 August 1977, in Manchester, England) is a British blues guitarist, singer and songwriter widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and innovative British blues guitarists of his generation (Source: Wikipedia). Raised on his father's blues record collection, he first performed on stage at age 13 and turned professional at 18, spending his early years as a sideman, including four years touring the UK, Europe and India with blues singer Dana Gillespie (Source: mattschofield.com). He formed the Matt Schofield Trio around 2000 with Hammond organist Jonny Henderson, initially with drummer Evan Jenkins and, from 2010, Kevin Hayes, releasing a run of acclaimed albums on Nugene Records including "The Trio, Live" (2004), "Siftin' Thru' Ashes" (2005), "Live At The Jazz Café" (2005), "Ear To The Ground" (2007), "Heads, Tails & Aces" (2009) and "Anything But Time" (2011) (Source: Wikipedia; mattschofield.com). Schofield won the British Blues Awards' Guitarist of the Year title three times, in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and became the first guitarist inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame (Source: mattschofield.com). Mojo Magazine named one of his releases its Blues Album of the Year, and Guitar & Bass Magazine placed him among the "Top Ten British Blues Guitarists of All Time" alongside Eric Clapton and Peter Green; he is also one of only two living British artists to hold a maximum four-star rating in the Penguin Book of Blues Recordings (Source: mattschofield.com). His 2014 album "As Far As I Can See" moved to the Mascot/Provogue label, and he released "Many Moons, Vol. 1" in 2025 (Source: Wikipedia). Now based in the United States, Schofield has toured nearly 30 countries and performed at major festivals including Montreal and North Sea Jazz and venues such as New York's Iridium and London's 100 Club, while also building a career as a guitar educator through TrueFire's "Blues Speak" instructional series (Source: mattschofield.com).
