Max Lazzarin is an Italian blues pianist, singer and songwriter from Padova who has been active on the Italian blues scene for over thirty years, having begun classical piano studies at age seven and started performing live at sixteen (Source: Il Blues Magazine; Stereorama). Shaped by numerous stays in Louisiana, where he played alongside local New Orleans musicians, his piano and vocal style channels the city's "contaminated," multicultural sound — blues and boogie-woogie blended with Caribbean rhythms, funk, ragtime and Mediterranean influences (Source: Torrita Blues Festival; Il Blues Magazine). He founded the band the Alligators and, in 2015, formed the duo Bayou Moonshiners with vocalist and percussionist Stephanie Ghizzoni, pairing her voice, snare, washboard and kazoo with his piano and voice (Source: Il Blues Magazine). Performing together, they won the Italian Blues Challenge in 2016 and went on to represent Italy at the European Blues Challenge in Denmark in April 2017, closing the festival's opening night to strong acclaim before placing fourth overall (Source: Il Blues Magazine; European Blues Union — Italy). His discography includes the Max Lazzarin Quintet release "Baron Samedì" (2006) and the album "Don't Touch My Shoes" (2009), as well as "Living Live," a live album released as Bayou Moonshiners with Stephanie Ghizzoni (Source: AllMusic; Discogs). Lazzarin has toured widely across Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, reinterpreting classics by Champion Jack Dupree, Fats Domino, Ray Charles and Katie Webster alongside original material (Source: Il Blues Magazine). Beyond performing, he serves as vice president of the Italian Blues Union, helping organise the Italian Blues Challenge that selects Italy's representatives for the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and the European Blues Challenge, and sat on the union's judging panel for the 2026 selections (Source: Italian Blues Union). In 2024 he launched "The Southern Connection," a national touring project uniting musicians from different Italian regions around shared blues and New Orleans-rooted repertoire, and continues to perform in newer configurations including Max Lazzarin & the Great Magicians (Source: e20veneto.it; Cagliari Post).

Musical Influence

As co-winner of the Italian Blues Challenge 2016 and a European Blues Challenge finalist, and as vice president of the Italian Blues Union helping select Italy's national representatives, Lazzarin has both performed and helped shape the country's contemporary blues scene (Source: Il Blues Magazine; Italian Blues Union).
