Michał Kielak was born on 6 November 1977 in Poznań and became interested in the harmonica at just 15 (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). He began his career in 2002 with the Inowrocław band Szulerzy, recording the album "Bez Ciebie" with them, and was then invited by Adam Kulisz to play in "Coolish Blues Session" (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). That recording secured him a place in Kasa Chorych, where he became a full member and performed right up until the band ended its activity in March 2017 (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). Since then he has performed regularly with musicians including Sebastian Riedel, Romek Puchowski, Tymon Tymański, Leszek Winder, Jan Gałach and Adam Kulisz, and with the bands Cree, Krzak, Pokój Numer 3, Czarny Pies and Śląska Grupa Bluesowa (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). He is a repeated winner of Twój Blues's Blues Top poll in the Harmonica Player of the Year category (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). In 2024, Kielak gathered a group of close musician friends and formed The Mystery Train: Amiya (vocals, named Singer of the Year 2024), Jakub Andrzejewski (guitar, vocals, named Vocalist of the Year 2024), Krzysztof Głuch (keyboards, a legend of the Polish jazz-blues scene), Paweł Mikosz (bass) and Maksymilian "Max" Ziobro (drums, named Instrumentalist of the Year 2024) (Source: kielak.pl; pilaczujebluesa.pl). With the band he released "Keys in My Pocket" (2024), which was named Album of the Year in both Blues Top (Twój Blues) and Blues Top Wielkopolski (Radio Poznań) (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). In 2025 came the live album "Live No.1" with The Mystery Train, plus the duet album "Historie" with Jakub Andrzejewski, carrying americana influences (Source: kielak.pl).

Musical Influence

As one of Poland's most repeated winners of Harmonica Player of the Year at Blues Top, and with a background at Kasa Chorych — one of the country's most important blues bands — Michał Kielak has shaped the sound of an entire generation of Polish blues projects he has guested on, from Śląska Grupa Bluesowa to Sebastian Riedel's Cree (Source: pl.wikipedia.org). Blues Top 2024 named him Poland's best harmonica player, while The Mystery Train collected several individual Year awards in the same poll (Source: kielak.pl; twojblues.com/blues.pl).

Formative experiences

  • •2024: Formed The Mystery Train and released "Keys in My Pocket," named Album of the Year in two separate polls (Source: pl.wikipedia.org).

Stories & Anecdotes

"The entire Mystery Train lineup placed on the podium in their respective categories at Blues Top 2024, a rare collective achievement in Polish blues (Source: kielak.pl)."
