MY BABY is a Dutch-New Zealand band formed in Amsterdam in 2012 by former members of the Amsterdam soul band The Souldiers (Source: en.wikipedia.org; MusicBrainz). Early connections through the PR manager of bass legend Larry Graham helped land the band shows at Paradiso Amsterdam and the North Sea Jazz Club that same year. The trio's sound fuses blues, country and funk with a hypnotic, trance-like intensity that MusicBrainz tags simply as "delta trance" alongside more conventional blues and soul labels. The current lineup is Cato van Dijck on lead vocals, bass and violin, her brother Joost van Dijck on drums, and Daniel "Dafreez" Johnston on guitars (Source: en.wikipedia.org). MY BABY's debut album "My Baby Loves Voodoo!" (2013) earned an Edison Award nomination in the audience category, and the band won the Edison Award outright in the Alternative category for "Shamanaid" (2015, also released with a companion "Remedy II" EP). Later albums include "Prehistoric Rhythm" (2017), "Mounaiki ~ By the Bright of Night" (2018), the live album "Live!" (2019), "Sake sake sake" (2022) and "Echo" (2025). The band has also picked up two nominations for Best Live Act at the NPO Radio 6 Soul & Jazz Awards. MY BABY has played major festivals including Lowlands, Down The Rabbit Hole, Paaspop, Zwarte Cross, Noorderslag, Freak Valley and Glastonbury (2016), toured Eastern Europe, South Africa and New Zealand, and supported American blues artist Seasick Steve on his 2015 UK tour.

Musical Influence

MY BABY has carried a distinctly hypnotic, trance-inflected strand of delta blues onto major European festival stages, earning a Dutch Edison Award and international touring credibility alongside acts like Seasick Steve (Source: en.wikipedia.org).
