"The Swedish blues professor" — a Chicago Express bandleader who toured with Jimmy Rogers, Luther Allison and Eddie Boyd, and built a soul-inflected solo catalog until his death in 2016, with one final album released posthumously in 2022.

Sven Zetterberg was born on 28 March 1952 in Skärblacka, Östergötland, and became one of Sweden's most respected blues and soul vocalists, guitarists and songwriters across four decades of steady, unglamorous dedication to the form. His career began in bands like Telge Blues and Blues Rockers before he co-founded Blue Fire and Four Roosters, and then, from 1981 to 1996, led Chicago Express, the band most associated with his name (Kilde: Wikipedia). Zetterberg earned genuine credibility touring alongside American blues royalty, sharing stages and billing with Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy McCracklin, Louisiana Red, Luther Allison and Eddie Boyd — direct contact with the Chicago blues tradition that shaped his own guitar and vocal phrasing. In 1989 he received the Cornelis Vreeswijk Scholarship, formal Swedish recognition of his songwriting (Kilde: Wikipedia). As a solo artist he released a steady stream of acclaimed albums, including "Blues from Within" (1999), "Horton's Briefcase" (2000), "Let Me Get Over It" (2001), "Moving in the Right Direction" (2004), "Southern Soul Agenda" (2006), "Hollerin' Up a Storm" (2007) and "Swings and Roundabouts" (2008), building a catalog that moved fluidly between blues and deep soul (Kilde: Wikipedia; Discogs). Zetterberg died on 21 December 2016 in Stockholm at the age of 64. His final album, "Rain On, The Lost Session," was released posthumously in 2022, a last testament from an artist Swedish blues fans still refer to as "the Swedish blues professor" (Kilde: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

Zetterberg's decades of direct touring experience alongside first-generation Chicago blues musicians gave his own Swedish blues and soul recordings an authenticity that made him a reference point for the country's blues scene until his death. (Kilde: Wikipedia)
