The Hoochies are a Dutch blues band built around four experienced musicians who deliver, in their own words, "raw and unpolished blues with hints of surf, gospel and haunted tremolo riffs" (Source: thehoochies.nl). The group was founded by singer and harmonica player Richard Koster and guitarist Roelof Meieringh, both bringing years of experience from other projects where classic blues consistently dominated their musical direction. The current lineup is completed by Jules van Brakel on bass and Chiel ten Vaarwerk on drums (Source: thehoochies.nl). In autumn 2025 The Hoochies won the final of the Dutch Blues Challenge, a result that earned the band selection to represent the Netherlands at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, and at the European Blues Challenge in Poland (Source: thehoochies.nl). The band's debut studio album, "Back on my own" (2025), features original compositions recorded at Natural Records in the Netherlands and has been described as an adventurous and versatile record. A live recording following a performance at the Moulin Blues festival also drew strong reviews. Formed in 2025, The Hoochies represent one of the freshest names to break through the Dutch blues competitive circuit (Source: MusicBrainz).

Musical Influence

The Hoochies' immediate breakthrough -- winning the Dutch Blues Challenge in their founding year and earning selection for both the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and the European Blues Challenge in Poland -- signals a new generation carrying raw, classic blues forward within the Dutch scene (Source: thehoochies.nl).
