Left Norway at fifteen to tour America with bluesman Rock Bottom's band; returned five years later to build a Spellemannspris-winning career (twice) fronting Vidar Busk & His True Believers on swing-based, soul-inflected blues-rock.

Vidar Busk left Norway for America at fifteen to tour with a blues band, and came back five years later having lived the kind of road apprenticeship most Norwegian musicians only read about (Kilde: Wikipedia). Born on 19 May 1970 in Langesund, Busk relocated to the United States as a teenager to perform with blues artist Rock Bottom's band, touring extensively before returning to Norway in 1990. He won the Smuget Prize in 1994 and formed his long-running backing band, Vidar Busk & His True Believers, releasing "Stompin' Our Feet With Joy" (1997), which caught the attention of the Notodden Blues Festival's NBF Blues Prize committee (Kilde: Wikipedia). His 1998 album "I Came Here To Rock" won him the Spellemannsprisen for Artist of the Year, and the band's third release, "Atomic Swing" (1999), earned a further Spellemannspris nomination in the rock category. After that stylistic detour, "Love Buzz" (2003) won the Spellemannspris again, this time in the blues/country category. Later releases have run through a series of different backing configurations: "Venus Texas" (2001), "Starfish" (2005), "Jookbox Charade" (2007) with the Voo Doodz, "Troublecaster" (2011) with His Bubble Of Trouble, and "Hustle & Flow" (2019) as Back Porch Republic, alongside guitarist Daniel Eriksen and drummer Stig Sjøstrøm. Busk has become known specifically for swing-based, soul-inflected blues-rock, earning Telemark County's Cultural Prize (2004) and the Gammleng Prize for jazz/blues (2016) (Kilde: Wikipedia).

Musical Influence

Busk's road-earned American apprenticeship and swing/soul-inflected sound brought a distinctly different flavor to the Norwegian blues scene than the Chicago- and Delta-focused purism of some of his peers, twice earning Spellemannsprisen recognition across two different genre categories (Kilde: Wikipedia).
